71 Evinrude 60HP water pump

I pulled the water pump on my '71 Evinrude 60HP. The impeller was hard, and two blades broken. It was suggested I replace the whole water pump with a new kit. I have since been told this is not available in kit form. ( The complete unit ).

Anyone know if this is correct?

Also, any clue why I would have a whistle/whine from what seems to coming from my starter with the key on?

Sure they offer a complete kit, 383682 standard kit, 384423 chrome kit.
Does you starter try and rotate when it makes the noise?

Thanks for the part numbers.

No movement from the starter. I definitely hear a high pitched whine or whistle, may not be from the starter. Hear it only with the key on.

I'm the same guy with the electric shift issues.
Removed the plug from bottom of the lower unit today.
Yes, milky brown color. What is best way to remove old oil?
Is there a flush process?

Disconnect the battery cable at the starter and see if the whine goes away.
I have been known to flush those lower units with mineral spirits and then flush from the top plug with some type "C" oil, and let it drain real good.

if shift solenoids are bad, you just have a hunk of scrap metal.

I have these part numbers for a complete water pump kit for my 1971 60HP Evinrude. Sure they offer a complete kit, 383682 standard kit, 384423 chrome kit.

I checked iboats, if they have them, I could not find them.

I contacted two guys on ebay which were listing other complete kits, one said not available, the other said he could only get the impeller kit.

Any help which direction I go to find either of these complete kits?
