Have a '71 Johnson 125HP, running great. Problem is, is running about 16 volts @ WOT. I had replaced the clipper & rectifier last year and it was fine. It's about 14 volts at idle. Just don't want to fry the battery or my CDI.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There is no voltage regulator on that motor, so like thousands of other motors, it will reach up to around 16V. You could have installed one of the new combo regulator-rectifier units. Or just ignore it like everybody else does if they don't have a voltmeter to tell them the voltage..

Think if you start with a fresh battery, fully charged, the rate might be a little less. Or go to a two battery system (starting and house battery), using a battery switch. Set to "both", the charge will be split between the battery banks.

Thanks. Would anyone know the number for the combo regulator/rectifer?

CDI part number 193-3408 for the regulated one. 153-3408 for the unregulated one
