'71 Johnson 50hp cooling system tell-tail

Can anyone tell me where the tell-tail cooling stream outlet is on my Johnson? It's an older engine and I've heard that some of the older Johnsons don't have this feature...that it's a "spray/mist" at the water level.<br /><br />Thanks all! <br /><br />Just moving this back to the top.

Most of the cooling water for your engine is discharged through the exhaust propeller below the water line. There are two holes just below and aft the powerhead that will discharge a little coolant water (as small mist)but their main function is to act as vents so that suction can be started from the water pump to the powerhead when the thermostat first opens after startup.<br /><br />Jim
