throttle cable broke where it runs into the motor. I had plenty of extra so I just cut it down. It didn't work work so good when I got it on the lake. It was hard to start and then it gave me throttle at first, but when I slowed down and then tried to get back up to speed it had nothing more than just above idle speed. I took the throttle cable apart and tightened it up and then it just barely turn over and the battery was dead, got towed back to dock. Does the throttle have to be in neutral when I hook up the cable? Help please!

Hi kst....first, trying to engineer a throttle cable is not the best thing in the world to do. The cables have a specific travel length and trying to cut one down is not the safest thing in the world to do. Fortunately you got yours undersize. Get to year local dealer and get a new one. The hassle your going through isn't worth it not to mention the safety factor of a jury rigged throttle cable.
