71 Johnson 6hp not peeing

I JUST got a sailboat with a Johnson 6hp long shaft that I ran in a garbage pale for 3 minutes with enough water. There was NOTHING coming out of the pee hole when it runs at idle. So I figured WATER PUMP.

However when I pulled it apart the impeller and casing looked new. So I pulled the stainless steal panels off both sides of the lower unit and cleaned it out. Reassembled and it is still not peeing. WHAT IS GOING ON??? It has to be getting water or the impeller would had been shot.

Could it have to do with the thermostat?

Try running a piece of weed wacker line up the water tube and see if it is clear. Mud daubers like top build nests in them.

Flush all your tubing and check the pee hole itself for clogs. My Evinrude had green slime build up that clogged it up.

When I had the lower unit apart I blow air up the water tube and I think I felt it at the pee hole.....very slight

Does the motor have to be in gear to pump water?

I notice that the intake is behind the prop does the motion of the prop force water into the intake?

had the same problem. You will pee at idle, out of gear if everything is running right. I was worried about mine, on muffs...didn't have the water pressure up high enough to feed the pump well enough apparently. This was after blowing the line out with compressed air. It's peeing on the muffs, and in the tank now....this was after a complete water pump housing, impeller and various O-ring replacement.

hi.
are you sure that you conected water tube in water pump gromet in right way-that should fit in
take of the termostat cover and clean this termostat area.
when you have the leg off from midsection conect garden hose to midsection intake an run some water from hose in low water stream and see if water will apear at termostat area.
put termostat in and screw termostat cover.
run once agein ater from hose and see if awter will apear at back tail outlet.

check if your water pump is pomping waer.teke your foot and conect driling machine with driving shaft rod and run driling machine in right rotation annd of course your leg scould be in water.

in my case when i did this witch driling machine i notice that i was loosing underpresure from water pump and water pump did not pump water
