I recently bought a 71 prince craft and it has that outboard engine on it. I had it runing onces for a few seconds then died out. The problem is it doesn't get spark at the plugs at all times I already put in a new coil and still it does the same thing. It acts like it wants to fire up but not until you let go of the key. Im thinking it can be the distributor assembly or the points. Im fairly new to boating this is the first boat ive own and want to get it in the water. Also if its possible can you let me know the adjustment to the carbs. Thank you in advance

Welcome to iboats!

If it tries to catch when you release the starter, it is possible that in the starting (cranking) position the ignition switch does not provide the 12V to the ignition circuit. It is the purple wire from the ignition switch, and onto the amplifier (CDI unit). See if you get 12V there when cranking the engine.
Also, try to find a manual to your motor, it would really help!

Good luck, Peter
