'72 1150 merc. trim tab bolt

dropping lower unit for water pump service..i can get any socket to fit..i believe the head of the bolt is rounded-off or stipped... what to do???

never mind folks I got it. it's a twelve-point aircraft bolt that had been rounded..tapped an 11 mm on it and bingo!!

Most of the older ones had an Allen socket bolt which was Real Fun to get out if the head was stripped! Usually had to drill it out.

Surprising that the 12-point bolt head was rounded but I guess it can happen. The Merc dlr should have a good replacement for it.

yeah I thats kinda strange I think someone used a six point socket and when they turned it, it just rounded the points off the fastener. I hope I can get one... I thought about that allen head too, I'll check the dealer but I have a feeling they'll say no!!
