Just drained my lower unit and the first steady stream was clear water, after that milky oil. Where do i start to track down this problem, or is this a problem. Never have had so much water come out only milky oil in the past. Thanks

Hi there, you definately have a bad seal somewhere, i would get a re seal kit for the lower unit, and while you re in there change the water pump impeller they are inexpensive and can save much money in the future, you could track and replace the bad seal, but you ll have the unit apart anyway why not, do them all once and for all

It can be good to know where the leak is before hauling the lower unit apart. Take an old tire valve stem and carve it to fit the lower unit plug hole. Submerge the lower unit and pump air into it with a bicycle pump, and note where the bubbles come out.

If the leak is severe enough, you may be able to accomplish the same by blowing through a peice of hose pushed into one of the l/u plug holes.
