Which engine do you have Evinrude, or Johnson? The switchs are not the same, but should not be to hard to find. Probably someone will step in here with a source. I have heard of a toggle switch on the dash, but I don't feel it's a good idea safety wise. My little grandson come's to mind if I took my eye off him for a second.

I'm with R.Johnson on that one. Also, accidentally shifting from forward to reverse at full throttle may damage the lower unit.
Something to consider anyway.

The gearcase is automatically in forward gear. Add 12vdc to the green wire and you get Neutral. Add 12vdc to both the green and blue wires and you get Reverse. The safest way to do that is with a stock switch. I'm afraid I can't help with a source. There are two different switches that look the same for Johnsons and for Evinrudes. Evinrudes use pushbuttons, Johnsons use a lever. Older lever and pushbutton switches supply 12vdc for the green Forward wire and 12vdc for the blue Reverse wire, so you have to know for sure which one you're getting. Johnson controls will work on Evinrudes and vice-versa.

my fualt, its a johnson.and yes i'm not thilled with the idea of a toggle switch.to many possibilites of misfortune.

when i start the motor i have 12v on the green wire and the prop stays still.however the lever on the switch is broke off so i have no idea what position its in.

anyway thats what i need,if anyone can point me in the right direction.please ....no ebay.thats where i inherited what i got.the last thing i need is to spend 50-100$ on a control or switch thats no good either,

rsharer, I have a '71 50hp Johnson and I got a switch for mine from Valley Marine in Glendale, Arizona 623-247-0355. I'm sure they could ship you one. Hope this helps.

Hi Rshare
That is the correct number 385253. I must of been looking at some other note. I have been known to screw up from time to time. I am glad to hear you found one.
