I need some information about the ignition system on this engine. It has some sort of electronic ignition. It has a small red box that is flat connected to each coil. There are no points, although it looks like there were points there at one time and they were removed. Is this some kind of conversion? I have determined that one of these "boxes" (ignition module I assume), is bad. I only had spark on the top plug, switched these two parts around and got spark on the bottom plug but none on the top. My question is where do I find a replacement for this? If I can't find a replacement, would it be feasible to change back to points? Also, this engine has Autolite 303 plugs. Are these correct? Thank you, Jdman

Re: '72 Chrysler 20 hp question

If you are correct in guessing the year of the motor chances are it is a autoelectric ignition system. I am looking at the schematic and do not see the parts you are mentioning. 1980 started using a C-D unit and maybe your motor was upgraded with it or the powerhead was replaced with a newer model. 20 hp parts are really hard to find on the internet. Use this link MARINE DOCTOR and post this question there. He might know what parts you are talking about and be able to find something for you. Another place is www.chryslercrew.com they have a chat on thursday nights and franz should be able to help you out
