Looking for a recommendation on some really good gasket sealer that will adhere between rubber and metal.

I Noticed water was getting into my lower unit gear oil and I'd see the tinest trails of gear oil leaking when I was parked at the marina. I dropped the lower unit, and pressured up the gear gase to 14PSI , and put in water. The Only place bubbles coming out is from the solenoid cover where the reverse/forward solenoid wire comes through with a rubber like grommet which is seated on the solenoid compartment cover. The grommet appears molded onto the wire itself. The grommet itself seems it good shape and isn't brittle. It was a very tiny leak. Out of the water tank the only way I can even detect the leak is with soapy water.. The good news is it's easy to get to. The question is what should I use to seal it up.

The wire and solenoid cover seems to be an integrated seal from the factory. The old compound under the grommet was definitely spent. I was thinking of just putting gasket sealer all around/under the grommet that is part of the wiring. Granted I didn't want to pull the wire/grommet out of the cover since it was factory sealed. Any suggestions? Gear case holds vaccuum well, but if I pump it up to 14-15 PSI, I got a steady stream of bubbles from under the grommet where the wire goes through the cover.

If anyone can reccommend a brand of sealer that can work for something like this please let me know. I am not sure I can get to the grommet seal from under the metal cover because I recall there was a rubber membrane covering the bottom of the cover. But I have not removed the solenoid cover. I was hoping I could just goop it up around the wire and grommet on top.

If anyone has had this kind of repair I'm open to any suggestions. I figure this is just another reason why Johnson/Evinrude discontinued electric shifts...
