Does the impeller plate simply sit in place or does it get "glued" down? I have an Evinrude service manual, but it is very vague. The gearcase where the plate sits on, looked like it had some kind of silicone or glue of some sort on the face of it.

I have an O-ring kit in my toolbox. Can I match the o-ring on the top of the driveshaft or do i need to order a new one from the dealer?

Thanks for the expertise,

Brad

You should use some kind of a sealer suitable for metal to metal contact under the plate. The factory used "Sealer 1000" but brand is not critical.

It is a stock Buna-Nitrile o-ring. Nothing special about it as long as the size is correct.

Thanks. That is the help that I needed.

One other thing. I am sure my motor was getting hot before. I just bought the motor and it had sat for about 3 years....I used it a couple of times and it worked well but the last time it seamed to be steaming and not peeing water out. I had read that the water pump should be replaced especially after sitting that long. The old impeller looks fine, but that plate was loose inside when I took it apart(not stuck/sealed to the gearcase/water jacket). That plate should have required a little bit of work to pop off.....no? Was that causing my water flow problems?

Thanks so much for the help,

Brad
