I have a 72 Evinrude I bought for $50. It starts and runs for 3-4 mins then it slowly dies. Spark is very strong when checked cold. I changed the points and condenser and same thing. Coil looks like original, and has some cracks. ( i have have sealed them with epoxy) I tried to upload a pic of coil but get a "The file you are trying to upload is corrupted." message

So have you checked for spark when it quits? Or it's overheating and seizing to a halt.

I had a 1974 25hp Johnson did the same thing. Cold it would start on second pull. After running it, and it ran great, if I killed it to fish I would have to wait until motor was back cold, because you could pull it till your arm fell off if it was hot and it would not start. But fish for 1/2 hour or more and it would start right up. Coils has cracks and I tried the epoxy thing but didn't help. End up selling it.

Passed the problem on to the new owner. Then he had to replace the cracked coil.
