I own a 1972 glastron gt 160, with 115 merc outboard. it runs good but, I want more POWER. how far can i go with this hull? I know that some of the newer motors are lighter if that helps. the boat has aprox 75 hours of freshwater use only and is in great shape, MORE POWER PLEASE :D

Dave....I had 1976 Glastron 16' until this year. It was rated for 125hp but I had a 76 Merc 150hp (tower of power) on it. I don't think I would want to go any higher, not because of weight but because of the hull's ability to handle the extra power/speed.

That hull design has no "pad". It's not designed to go more than 48-52 MAX.<br /> You want faster, you better invest in a Bassboat that's built for speed........ :)

ill let the other guys talk about the pad....but the boat has a max hp rating. its written on the hull plate on the starboard side gunnel by the transom.

it is not wise to go too far beond the max rated hp....10-15 hp is ok but not reccomended.......there is a thread in the resto section about a boat that had way too big of a motor on it....it started to tear the transom off.

also if there is any kind of an accident.....you will have insurance problems.

if you start playing with props....you might be able to get another 3 mph outta her

If you want more speed, buy a different boat.:)

If you want more speed, buy a different boat. Agreed. any kind of accident, and the injured person will own everything you have.

A pad is a flat spot on the boat of the v hull that at speed the boat rides on.

Here's a pic of a hydrostream viper bottom. It has a pad and a notched transom.

So you want to put a 200 hp motor on an older boat that rated for 125 hp? Do me a favor ... name me in your will.

I have a 1972 glastron GT 160 that originally had a 115HP mercury. The original owner decided to race the boat with a 150HP mercury and the transom now has two large crack. The boat is now down on power and the cracks havent gotten any worse but I think it is in need of some restoration before too long.

I agree with about all of the above, and a boat and I'm assuming motor of that age with only 75 hrs in fresh water would be a find that a lot of these readers would love to own. Anyway, if you want a gofast boat, sell your glasstron and buy a gofast boat. Different strokes for different folks.

Good Luck
