72 johnson 100 hp banging sound?

Yesterday I was out working on our boat and grabbed the prop shaft and was spinning it. I noticed that there is a banging sound when the prop shaft is turned. What could be causing this as this does not seem normal.

you have a hydro-electric shift lower unit. when the motor is running there is and oil pump in the lower unit that holds the clutch dog in place, probably just the clutch dog and gear klunking, due to no pressure.

Ok I hope that is all it is as I do not want to buy or rebuild a motor.
