This 72 25hp johnson 25e72r outboard I am piecing together needs the shift linkage o-ring replaced. The last of all the aged leaking seals.

My question is; to get the o-ring out I need to get the bushing out, how hard is it to get the bushing out.

the bushing is part no 40# in the following diagram

thanks in advance

Not hard with the proper tool. The tool is a hardened steel rod, the end is about the same diameter as the shift rod and fits through the bushing. It has a collar a few inches up from the end and the rest of the shaft is a larger diameter than the end. A few taps with a hammer and the bushing pops right out. You could fashion your own, I suppose. I found mine on ebay for $12.
