Hello,
Last spring I purchased a 72' Larson Bowrider, 18', that had been sitting in a yard for two years. The boat was in very decent condition, and had a well running Johnson 150 GT on it. I got the boat for $1200. The hull looked good when I got it, as did everything else. The only thing I had noticed is the trailer setup didn't look too great, it had TWO slide boards (IDK the proper term for them, just 2x4's covered with carpet) to support the entire boat. Anyway, I got it all prepped to go out, made sure the motor was running nice. I got to the lake, put it in at the launch and everything seemed fine. So, I parked the truck and went back to find that water was up to the carpet in only about 2 minutes of being in the water. Found out that those slide boards had made two huge cracks in the hull that were PERFECTLY hidden.
So, I popped the floor to find out that the stringers were completely rotted out, and the foam soaked. I've taken out the floor/stringers/foam from the walk through window back, but I'm sure the front is in the same condition.
So here's my plan. I want to take the cap off, tear out the rest of the floor/stringers/foam, build new stringers after repairing the fiberglass, and put in new floor/foam. Oh, I forgot to mention, about the middle of the hull (length wise) there is about a 10" warp of the fiberglass.
SUGGESTIONS! I have not done such a huge repair before, I need all your knowledge kids! Everything from the repairs, pitfalls, how to setup my trailer better so this doesn't happen again, expenses....EVERYTHING!
Oh, here are some pics of my beautiful boat before it was torn apart.
Thanks,
Steve
