Re: 72 lund tri hull transom and storage redo....
So, today's the day......highs in the 50's meant time to fire up the heater.
Had my 5/8" ply already cut to rough shape of 50"x22".
Sanded with 80 grit and a D/A sander....wiped 2x with acetone.
Mixed up about 50 ounces of resin (poly) and rolled onto one side....let tack, laid down my CSM, wetted well with roller, wetted second piece of ply, laid them together, and used about 50 inch and a quarter drywall screws to clamp it together.
Now my thoughts were....hmm....how to keep it all at a warm temperature.....I have a Pelsue radiant heater, but that seemed to heat the plywood pretty hot....90 degrees roughly... so what I did, was put the transom up in my rafters in the garage, and fired up my standup propane heater.....heat rises right? So I can easily regulate temps of about 75 degrees up there....seems to be working okay. I'll see when it dries.
I won't be surprised if it is complete garbage when it's done....this is my first "big" glass project, hopefully it's useable when it's set.
I go all summer with a "sketchy" transom, and decide to do a restore when the temps start falling....real smart Garzilla......real smart.
Also hope I mixed right.....I used 40 ounces of resin....and added 45 drops of hardener to it. (called for 10 drops per ounce of resin)
My transom calculated to 40 square feet..... I think it was....I wrote it down in the garage, and I'm still a little woozy from the fumes.....I think the respirator I had wasn't working so hot..LOL.
I've got a couple pics...nothing fancy, pre cut pieces just before layout.....and pics of completed setup up in rafters, with a IR thermometer showing a balmy 75 degree surface temp.....couldn't get any during layup.... I was sweating, and rushing!!! LOL
How long should this cure, before I cut out my template?? I suppose once it's cured, I should be fine to trace, and cut??
