ok, for my 72 merc 1150 seloc says advance the throttle to TDC or -2 degrees BTDC...the primary pickup should just be touching the carb cluster...to make adjustments "loosen the throttle plate pickup attaching screws" and shift the plate to just make contact with the carb lever...WHERE IS the "throttle plate pickup screws" located? seloc shows me a throttle pickup screw..which i know where its at...is this the screw their talking about or is it something else....i don't believe my carbs are getting picked up when they're supposed to be and i think my timing might be to far advanced...way late pickin up the carbs and can only get 4100RPM's out of it and i dont think my carbs are opening all the way...when trying a holeshot, i here timing "chatter"...

Re: '72 merc 1150 throttle pickup adjustment

Monk-monk, There are two plastic coated brass "fingers" which open the carbs. The frontmost of these is the idle timing pickup. There are two stainless 5/16 or 3/8 head screws anout 1/2 up the distributor body, which control the idel timing pickup's adjustment. Set the idle timing pickup to 4-6 degrees BTDC, by advancing the throttle, engine off until the cranking motor shows the correct timing. Now loosen those bolts and rotate the idle pickup timing collar to just touch the carb levers..

Monk-monk....

You need to lose that seloc and get the right Merc manual. It's part number is 90-68647...
All the things you're asking about at covered in the Merc manual, complete with pictures....
