Thanks to iboats again!! After disassembling and examining the parts i realize failure of the pump was just around the corner! The impeller was in remarkably good condition, however; the seals in both housings were completely shot, lower housing O-ring had no shinning rubber...it had a white slag type stuff between it and the L/U housing. The seal in the top housing fell out in my hand... A tragedy prevented!! Thanks iboats

monk-monk, There is no seal in the top water pump housing. The seal in teh lower housing is for the driveshaft, and they usually look good. even when they are bad. Same goes for the Oring around the base of the pump housing. It never hurts to replace all the gaskets and orings. if you have doubts about the driveshaft seal, replace the lower housing.
