I just got a 72 Stamas with an OMC with a 225HP Chrylser. Engine starts and idles great. When you give it some gas, it will get up to about 1500 rpm and then cuts out. Can sometimes keep it going by backing off the gas, but then cannot accelerate. Will run fine in idle, but when you gas it, it stalls out. Changed water/gas filters and nothing changed. New to boating and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Mike

Could be a carb problem (accelerator pump) water in the fuel, plugged passages in the carb due to water (corrosion) in the carb, need of a complete tuneup (Spark plugs, cap, rotor, points, condenser, plug wires, check timing, advance timing, compression check, etc. etc. etc.
Lot more to it than just filters.

Figured it could be a lot of things, just wanted to eliminate what I had done. I have cleaned out both fuel lines and run it from an auxillary tank and the same issue occurs. Looking in the carb when increasing gas and there just isn't any flowing in, unless I back off and then I can squirt some in. Trying to narrow down between carb problem and fuel pump problem, but I could be totally off base there as well. Runs great at low rpm, just when I increase, in gear or not in gear, it will stall out. thanks

"T" in a fuel pressure gauge and go for a ride, that should tell you if its carb or pump. At that age it could be both.

You sure thats an OMC back there and not a Volvo? Never heard of a OMC behind a Chrysler but then again, theres a lot I haven't heard...
