Hi All,
Here is my project that I'm going to restore. I have about a million questions and am sure I'll ask every one of them. So Far I've got the floor out and the Styrofoam removed. Next is a good cleaning so I can see what I have. What is a good way to leak check? Fill with water and look under boat? Also what about replacement Styrofoam? I need a suggestion of different types of Styrofoam (thickness's and ease of use) Also is the boat a "Deep V"? It has no bilge pump but I want to install one-would a low profile pump get installed behind the 3 rib? See what I mean about the questions

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Whatsa matter with the foam panels ya took out,..?? Wet,..??

Lotsa guys use the sub-grade expanded foam board for that sorta space... Dowboard/ blueboard type stuff...

Leave an open area in the deck, at the transom, 'n properly mount a regular, easily replaceable bilge pump in there...

Welcome D. Got to the Starcraft section and check out the restos there. Most of your questions have probably been answered. But ask any questions you need to, we love to talk about about boats, especially tinboats and better yet Starcrafts.

I like them little 14' boats. Easy to handle and store. You fish?

What is a good way to leak check?
Fill er up and look underneath. Buck the rivets, replace any missing and Gluvit the seams.

Also what about replacement Styrofoam?
Home Depot sheet foam. Get the closed cell, pink stuff I think. Thickness, 1" should do it. Cut to fit.

You're gonna want a bilge for sure. I'd put it in the lowest part of the bilge. Lots of Holiday and Falcon 14' restos here. Someone who actually did a little boat will chime in, probably with pics.

Also is the boat a "Deep V"?
I'd call it a modified deep V. Flat in the back and a nice wave cutting V up front.

Yep I like to think I can fish but its really a big joke to the fish. I've seen some of 'yer other post and your not very far from me. I'd like it if the mods could move this post into the Star Craft section (I did not realize it existed) Thanks for the info. I have along way to go and a LOT to learn about resto. Part of the reason I picked her up was 1- Brand 2-low profile in the water 3-(hopefully) not to difficult to resto!

Hang on, you just picked that up eh? Off craigslist right? I think I saw that boat listed and drooled a little dreaming of grabbing it up (super price if memory serves). She'll make for a really fun metal floater!

Oh the dirty perverted things I would do to that sweet little innocent boat if she was mine!

Looks she'll be a nice project for you, and shouldn't be hard at all to fix up.

I find the rib clip and plywood block deck props interesting, I haven't seen that before.

Yep...this was the one on CL - got it even cheaper than asking. I was really hesitant about picking it up - sounded to good to be true, but the lady I bought her from husband died in Jan and she was selling off his toys. She has another guy helping her sell these, her late husbands friend, and has more stuff that will be on CL in the spring. Couple of motors that the guy wants to get running before they sell them. Friend me and I'll keep ya posted on that if you want.

Hi DS, Since I have what would be one of your boat's big sisters, I was curious about the upswept trim paint on the side of the hull. If this is original paint, it doesn't look like others in the '72 Starcraft brochure seen here:

Does the nameplate (usually near the helm) state that this is a 14' Holiday? Either way, she looks pretty good to me.

I believe that this is original paint. I think the bow and side rails have been repainted due to some over spray on some of the aluminum trim pieces. I cannot find any pics or info on a 14 Ft Holiday. The closest I've seen is the Sunbird but mine has a split windshield. It does have the "14FT Holiday" badge on the helm dash. If anyone has pics and info on my little orange tinny please post or pm me.
