So I'm just dreaming of when winter will be over and I can get the old girl back in the water again. Last year I bought a 72 Steury V415. I put a 1974 50hp Evinrude on the back. I never got what I felt was the right prop on her I had a 15X17 prop. It was slow getting on plane and never sounded like she got high enough RPM's. So this year I have a 13.75X15 prop for it and am looking into the installation of a tach. I just really hope to be able to ski and tube I just had so many problems last year I want this one to be nothing but fun. Heres to wishing away my life in anticipation of open water. Happy Holidays to everyone!!

Anyone with a similar boat set up wanna talk about their performance let me know thanks!

Please read the stickies at the top of the page.
Tell us more about your boat.Size, weight, design, speed? A tach is an excellent idea.In fact you can't really do it right without your max rpm and speed.
The antivent plate(just above the prop) should be visable at speed.About even with or slightly above the bottom of the boat.Be sure the throttle opens all the way at the carb.Bottom clean and smooth.

I have set up that boat motor combo in the 70's and the OMC straight pitch 15"P was the number that worked best overall on that rig. It also happened to be the prop supplied with the motor.
Start there and get steelspike the #'s he needs. The newer progressive pitch props should provide better overall performance than the stock original (15Pitch).
