I recently posted results of my first start attempt. Where the little motor ran like a demon. I could not get it to slow down.

Consider me an infant as far as my knowledge goes with outboards. Never had one before.

When I started the motor. I had the lever on the side of the motor in the full forward position. There are no stickers left on my motor to tell me what it does, so I had little understanding of its purpose other than start and run. Is it a throttle lever?

After reading a couple of posts I believe I now understand that you are supposed to place the lever in the start position (just opening up the rear butterfly)? Fully forward is run or is it actually throttle increase?

It is the throttle lever. For starting set it so that the throttle valve is open a bit but experiment to find the best setting. You have no clutch so you don't really want to have to start it at a very high throttle opening.

You have a remote fuel tank? yes ???

Open the tank vent and prime the fuel system with the bulb.

Set the two mixture control knobs to their mid positions.

Pull the choke

Open the throttle a bit and pull the string.

Push the choke back progressively, but as quickly as you can, as it warms up and regulate the speed with the throttle lever.

You may need to look at the mixture needle settings. If so see Joe Reeves' instructions on the "Engine Frequently Asked Questions" board. ( Top one is the idle mixture, bottom one is the high speed mixture.)

You appear to have no problems with ignition so if you cannot get it to run and idle satisfactorily, even when the needles are adjusted, or if you have difficulty with the needle adjustment, you will probably be needing a full carburettor clean.

yes I have a separate gas tank. Today I rebuilt the carb per spec in the manual.
All I need to do now is sinc the carb with the ignition and she should run like she is supposed to.
