'73 electric shift lower 35, 40, 50,---compatible with '81 J35RCIG rod shift?

Can I make it work? Can I just use a shift rod instead of the electrics? KR

As an afterthought, the pics look exactly like what is on my other motor now. Apparently, the lower on my working motor is from a larger setup. The only difference between the two is that on the 73, there is a small extrusion of aluminum at the rear of the cav plate. It's about 3/8" wide, maybe 1 1/2" long and points downward toward the prop. Thanks, KR
