In my manual it says that when replacing the shaft seals to wipe the outer diameter of the new seal with OMC Gasket Sealing Compound.

I've got a gasket seal that I've used on other stuff that I'm wondering if it would be OK to use in this application. It is a Permatex Gasket Maker, Ultra Black OEM Hi-Temp RTV Silicone.
