I've discussed this topic a couple of weeks ago. I am working on a friends lower unit, model number 50372R. I have got to the point where I need to remove the driveshaft pinion gear nut. The shaft will move up and down, but will not turn. I have come to the conclusion with the help of others on this board that the forward and pinion gears are engaged. I have the shift rod assembly out down to the lower unit case. It will not move up or down. Therefore will not shift.

The information shows a pin in the next two parts of the shift mechanism that can only be removed one the shift cylcer is removed. It will not come out easily.
How can I get it completely out of gear so the drive shaft will turn?
The prop shaft is free to turn and I have removed everything to the pinion gear. The gears are all crisp and show little wear. The bearings and seals are shot, but the major components look good. The case cracked due to freezing.
Thanks, this group has a tremendous amount of knowledge that I'm glad they're willing to share.
Steve
