Does anyone no how to test the system. I checked the battery while the motor was running and got just battery voltage. I pulled the + cable and got 0 volts. there was one fuse and it is good. My manual has not got here yet so i am kind of setting here play with the seats now. thanks for any help

Re: 73 Evinrude 65HP no charge

most likely culprit: rectifier.
it's a small metal cylinder bolted to the starboard side of the engine block with 3 wires coming off it.

click on the Engine FAQ section of iboats and find the "small rectifier test" thread by Joe Reeves

if by "pulled the + cable" you mean "disconnected the battery while the engine was running", that right there will blow a rectifier. although yours was probably already shot anyway. ;)
