On the way home from a diving trip last weekend, the motor ran out of gas. I checked the tank and there was plenty of gas in the tank (I have portable 6 gallon tanks). I pumped up the primer bulb and it started right up. I checked the primer bulb while it was running and it kept going soft. In order to get back in, someone had to prime the bulb the entire way back.

I assumed it was a fuel pump so I replaced the fuel pump today but after running it in the driveway, the primer bulb got soft again. I've checked the fittings and everything seems tight so I'm kind of at a loss.

I use regular hose clamps for all of the connections. Is there a different type of clamp I should use? This is what I use on all of the connections.

Tomorrow, I'll buy a new connector that attaches the fuel line to the gas can. This is the type I use to connect to the gas can.

I know there's an o-ring in there and maybe that's the problem?

I appreciate your help!

The primer bulb is supposed to go soft with the engine running; it becomes just a part of the hose. Check your tank vent and make sure it is venting correctly.

It is?? I've never really paid attention because it's worked well up until this point. Thanks! I'll take it out on the water and test it.
