74' 850 mercury outboard need help..parts

when my lower unit cracked, i took out some internal parts from the lower unit..(everything before the nut going upwards) and when i took out the parts i found a metal piece that looked like a bullet on the bottom, does anyonne know where that goes. And my ptt dont work.. what should i do if my trim cylinder was mistreaded (the smaller hole)
-also how do you take out the lower unit?

It sounds like you have need of a new gearcase and perhaps a new trim cylinder. To remove the gearcase, put the motor in neutral, and remove the visible nuts (1 in front top, two sides on top and two above the prop, under the antiventilation plate). There is a hidden bolt under the zinc anode, above and behind the prop. If the bolt is original, a thin wall 1/2" socket (3/8" drive) should fit. If it hase been replaced it could be an allen screw or a 12 point bolt.
