I just picked up a 74 85HP Johnson ob model number 85esl74b. It came with the Power**** II and the shifter is giving me issues. I can not get it to start the motor and for some reason it's not going into reverse. My question is I have all the wiring still in place from a 80 35hp Evenrude(model number e35elcsm). Can I use the keyswitch and wire harness from that motor for the new one to instead of the Powershift II? My other question is I have an Evinrude Simplex shifter for the old motor. Am I able to use that instead of the Powershift II? I am seeing a lot of people with issues with that control box and would like to get rid of it. What is weird is when I bought the motor the guy just hooked it up to the Powershift II and started it for me no problem at all and now that I got it mounted on the boat it will not start. It clicks the choke solenoid but will not make it turn over. I have plenty of cranking power from the batter to get the motor to turn over. I bypassed the solenoid switch and got the motor to turn but would not fire up.
