74 evinrude 15 hp starts and dies

I just bought a 74 evinrude 15 hp yesterday and need help getting it running. The previous owner said it ran which I guess technically wasn't lying because it does turn over but dies immediately following. If this is not an easy fix I need to get my money back. I probably pulled it 100 times today and it ran for about 3 seconds each time. Help appreciated

read the Top Secret Files at the beginning of this forum..anything having to do with compression, spark, and fuel...gotta have those...as a start I'd suggest you spray some fuel/oil mix in the carb throat, close the choke and see if it'll fire as you pull it....compression check is the most critical as it will be the most costly to fix < if more than a blown head gasket>, check the lower unit lube..if more water comes out than grease...you may really want to consider that money back offer
