'74 evinrude 70hp doen't start

I have a 74 Evinrude 70Hp outboard that has a weird starting problem. Sometimes I can start it with the ignition and other times I have to jump the starter seloniod but the last time I had to jump the seloniod it still would not start. It has a brand new remote control box and I put a new seloniod in it. Could the rectifier be my problem? It has a shady looking wire going to it.

XR250,<br /><br />Remove the ground (battery) cable on the engine block. Clean it up and reinstall.

Thanks for the help but it ended up being a broken wire in my control box. I took it back to the guy I bought it from and got it fixed.<br /><br />But still thank you for your time.
