I recently bought a 74 sea star with a 74 135 evinrude on it. I took it out yesterday for the first time and I got it up to 42 mph. The tachometer goes up to 8000 rpm but when I had it floored all the way it only went up to maybe 5100 rpm. Is there any way I can get some more rpm's or something I can do to the motor to get some more horsepower? I know getting a new prop will help but I was looking for a cheap way of getting some more speed.

Roughly, 5500 rpm is about the recomended WOT for that engine, so your close.... Keep it tuned, prop it right, make sure the carbs are opening up all the way, and thats about it....

You could bring your rpm's up by decreasing the pitch of the propeller, but that may also slow you down.....

8000 rpm would blow that motor to the moon.. :D
