I am starting a salvage the motor on an older Chrysler, ran good couple years ago, tying to get it started leads me to believe the carbs are gummed up. The only ID # I can find are Tillotson B21 A8 on one side and 481061 on the other, can anyone help in directing me to rebuild kits for these? Thanx for any help you can offer.

Usually a good cleaning will do wonders. The carbs are dirt simple and the only real replaceable parts are the floats, inlet needles, low speed needles and cork bowl gasket.

Before you go buying parts, take off the bowl. remove the float, clean everything with WD40 (works wonders) and reassemble.

Float level should be parallel to the casting with the carb inverted and weight of float holding the needle closed.

Low speed needle should be set (to start) at 1 1/4 turns out from lightly seated.

CAUTION: when adjusting idle do not set needles leaner than 3/4 turn. To do so causes lean running at full throttle, detonation, and melted pistons.

Parts can be found at The Chrysler Crew.

That 90 was rated optimistically. It was rated at the powerhead and really only delivered about 75 HP. So don't be expecting too much from it.

Re: '75 90HP carb I.D.

Thanks Frank for the tips!! I am really new at all this and want to do as much as I can, for $$ as well as ability. Doing a complete rebuild this winter will help stave off cabin fever during the "wet season" gere on Vancouver Island! The optimistic HP rating makes more sense as the boat was only rated for 70 HP when built. The previous owner used it predominantly for skiing, which i will some, but mostly just to get out to Zippermouth Bay, I hear the fishing is good there!
