I have a 40hp evinrude 1975 and a 60hp evinrude year unknown. I'm guessing it is a 1970 or so, I remember seeing an old ad for evinrude that looked similar to this engine and it said "loop charged" The cover is white and the evinrude logo is the one that is pointier... Well anyway on to my question.

If I ordered the controls for the 1975 40hp would they fit the older model 60hp as well? What years will the 1975 controls be compatable with?

Thanks for the quick reply-

I guess I will have to dig up that enigine number and find out what year it is so I can order the controls seperately..

I believe your '40' has external mounts for the gear/throttle cables. The same cables will work, I'm not sure about the electrics.

Can a tiller for the older 60 be found? Is that even possible?

If your 60hp is indeed a '70 then it's a hydro-electric shift. Your '75 40hp is mechanical shift. This being the case, the controls are not compatible. Your three cylinder 60hp is loop charged. I've seen these motors in tiller versions but mostly later model mechanical shift versions. I'm not sure if they offered the early looper motors with a tiller option.
