Re: 75 hp chrysler model 7571
Chrysler made three different versions of Magna Power. Your distributor may have points or a module that uses light and shutters to signal the CD box. Power out of the distributor to the CD box is signal power only. the power to the box comes from the blue wire on the engine terminal. Check your switch first to be sure the blue wire is hooked to the "I" terminal. Then tahe the blue wir from the terminal board going to the module--not the cable going forward to dash and hook it to red. Now if it fires, you know the switch is bad. Otherwise the module or coil is bad and must be replaced.
If it sat for an extended period of time with water in the case, the shift shaft may be rusted in the drive shaft or the dog clutch may be rusted to it. If it had any good amount of lower unit oil in it this is not too common though, because the oil additive ties up free oxygen and if the case is not opened, steel parts will not rust even in the presence of water--MAYBE-- If all linkages are connected and do not move, first check the lower shift rod to see if it is binding in the seal.
If not, then you must open the case. to check gears and shafts.
