1996 2 stroke oil injected. I can't find my manual. What oil is used for lower unit & approx how much. I just checked it and it only had about 16 ounces in it. Thanks in advance for replies. Dennis G.

You can also use any marine grade gear oil if you can't find the Quicksilver isn't convenient. I've found there isn't an appreciable cost savings (maybe a buck a pint) between generics and name brands, so don't do it just to save money. Most autoparts stores sell marine gear oil labeled by major oil companies as well.

I would use Merc. Quicksilver High performance, or Quicksilver Premium lower gear oil. You must have drained it to know there was 16 oz., so buy a quart, & a hand pump, pull the fill plug(Bottom), & the vent plug(top), Pump it in until it comes out the vent, put in vent plug, remove pump hose install drain/fill plug. Don't forget check the plug washers! Save what you don't use you'll use it next time. Good luck, Joe

Thanks, I live in the Calif. foothills so closet marine parts (West Marine) is 37 miles down the hill. Kragen Auto had Valvoline marine gear oil and it specifies Merc so I just bought four tubes ($3 for 9 oz.)since I don't know what the fill amt. is. I guess it should do the job. Thanks again for replies. Dennis G.

That's what I use too (valvoline from Schucks). I figure it's a good name in oil.
