I have a 1997 75hp elpto mercury outboard. Last weekend i was going up the lake WOT and the boat died as if you had turn the key off. I checked the kill wire at the engine and it is not grounded unless you turn the key off. The kill switch isn't even hooked up as far as i can tell. Eventually i found that i was getting no spark to any of the cylinders. After some researching i read the likely issue was either the rectifier or the stator. After replacing the rectifier (the cheaper of the two lol) the boat started and seemed to run fine. I took the boat back to the lake this weekend for a camping trip. Idled the boat from the ramp to the boat in campsite, idled back to the ramp, and back to the campsite. Upon returning to the camp site the second time the boat died as I was coming up to the bank to tie off. It wouldn't hit a lick after that exactly like the weekend before. I suspect i have no spark on any cylinder again. HERES THE QUESTION. If the rectifier is dead again what could be killing it? Stator? Is there anything i can test to figure this out with a standard meter. Any help you gentleman/woman could throw my way would be greatly appreciated.
