Ok here goes, I've got a 1975 Johnson 115 that last year ran great, Tried to crank it this year and it will crank and then go right back died. Took to the shop because I don't know anything about rebuilding carbs and had them totally rebuilt but still having the same issue. Shop told me that the power pack was bad, Had a old spare off another boat changed it out with that one and still the same issue. What's the chances of the spare one being bad? I've had it for quit a few years after I swaped heads out because of a ring broke on it but I figured that one was good. I'm thinking it may be a bad fuel pump that's causing it not to crank but not sure. Don't want to be spending $60 on fuel pump then still have to spend $130 on A power pack. Comprition is good at 110,113,115,110 accross the board. Thanks in advance for the help

The terms you used may be creating some confusion. Cranking is having the motor turn over or spin with the starter engaged, it may not fire, start, or run, its just turning over.
If it fires and starts for a second or so then its doing more than just cranking.

Did the shop start the motor after the carb rebuild?

Did you ask them why they thought it was the power pack?

If I understand what your saying correctly, then a power pack or fuel pump wouldn't be the first things I'd be looking at.

Yes the engine will start and then goes right back died, the shop said they didn't want to start it because when he was checking everything out he found that the power pack was bad, So I've replaced the power pack with one I allready had, Has fresh fuel and new spark plugs. The reason I come to the conclution that it might be the fuel pump (and I forgot to but this in earlier post sorry) is that after I get it started I can keep it running as long as I spray some gas oil mixture in the carbs while it's running. So that's got me thinking thats it would be the fuel pump. Thanks for the replys

Still doen't mean its the fuel pump.

Squeeze the bulb in the fuel line and see if that keeps it running, if it does keep running then it may be the fuel pump, if it dies its carb related.
