Need some help on where to start on a '89 Mariner 75HP Oil Injected starting problems. I replaced the fuel connection to the engine because it would not stay connected & the engine would quit, then I would push it back in and it would run fine. When I replaced it I had a leak comimg from the engine so I unhooked it, went out the next day & reconnected it and the leak was gone. I put the boat in the water Saturday & it started right up at the ramp and ran fine until I got out of the no wake & then gave it gas and if fell on it's face and died. Checked the fuel line, it was getting gas from the tank but would not start, so we just stay there and swam a coulpe of hours, then I got it sarted and we got back to the dock & it died again and would not start. Does this sound like a carb, fuel pump problem or other? Any help would be welcomed.

Re: 75 mariner starting woes !

Try replacing the fuel conector on the hose as I have had trouble with them leaking and sucking air at that conection. Be sure you get the correct fitting as some are diffrent. Use a nylon clamp around the hose and screwed into the trasom to allow enough slack for the motor to turn will take some of the vibration and stress off of the fitting from the hose hanging on it. Placing the primer buld just below the clamp will help keep the check ball in the primer bulb from letting gas back flow to the tank also. JMO

I have the right connector & it's tight, it was a little big for the fuel line. I thought it might have got some rubber shavings in the carbs from the connector being to big for the fuel line, but the connector is plastic so I didn't think it scraped the fuel line. I have plenty of slack in fuel line, no binding.

...........Problem solved, the fuel line going into the fuel pump was busted. The line is a little short, but will work for now, going to order new fuel line.
