75 Merc. on pontoon

I just bought a used 24' party barge with 75hp mercury. Wondering if the 75hp would pull a skier. If not could I get a different prop or do I need to bump up to a 115hp. Can any one gave my a price range on a 1995-2000 model 115hp Merc, Yamaha, Johnson, Evinrude.

Hello, I also just bought a used 24-footer Parti-barge ('87) it HAD a 115 Merc. The motor was bad, so I found a used 60HP bigfoot....

But from reading other postings on here, it sounds like youu can only get 23MPH out of a 115 ( I only got around 18mph, but then discovered the motor was not working right!)

So for pulling a skier, I think you can forget it. A pontoon is for going slow. ( thats why the wife wanted one) I have a bowrider, 18 footer for pulling skiers. you may want to consider something else for skiing.

For prices, look on the NADA web site, they give used boats and motors. I found a usd motor on cregslist.

I get 26mph with my 115hp on a 25' toon.

i have friends running 32mph up to 56mph running 150hp to 250hp.

Pontoons are not for running slow however it takes a lot of HP to push them fast. With my 115hp I can pull wake boards, tubes and a skier depending on how many people I have aboard.

A 75hp however won't do it IMO. I think you will see about 18mph.

I had a 20' sweetwater with that motor. did 24 mph flat out with 2 passengers. Won,t pull a skiier.

I have a 24' fiberglass skipper craft with a 90 Hp Yamaha 2 stroke, and I can get 24 mph on gps with 4 people aboard.

Keep in mind a 115 will go through about 11 gph(gallons per hopur)at wot.
Nice thing about higher hp is you can throttle back to the 75s speed and the 115 will be loafing instead of working its guts out.

You didnt say if it was a two log or three, but we have a 24 ft two log with a 115hp. Aint pulling no skiers.

20 - 24mph toons can pull skiers. I have seen alot of 24' 2 log 115hp boats run 24mph depending on load.
