I've just changed the timer base on this motor (1975 OMC 115hp), and bolted back on the flywheel. Seems like I have a wobble in the flywheel now. Maybe/maybe not - just barely noticeable at idle. I cleaned the mating surfaces on the taper well, then torqued it down. Is it common to get it to sit right, right away, or is it common to have to fuss with them a little bit? It's tricky to get it on there square, when you first place the flywheel on the taper, because the magnets start pulling.

Anyone else have trouble with this? I don't like the idea of a wobbling 6000 rpm flywheel, so am going to try again.

LedgeFinder,

I don't know about your motor, but mine (82 Johnson 140) has a keyway that needs to line up.

Safe boating to all.

Cheers.

emp.
