Hello all,
I'm am purchasing a Tracker v-16 WT and am weighing out which motor will work best for me. I have no experience with either and was hoping that maybe you guys could shed some light on it. I would like to troll with my boat but still maintain decent speeds. I like the idea of the quiet nature of the 60-horse 4-stroke but at the same time I hope it is enough engine for the boat. The 75 OptiMax would be nice too but I have heard the 4-stroke is more reliable. Any input would be great. Thanks!

My only gripe about the newer merc 75hp motors, both 2 and 4 stroke, is the weight. They are the same weight as the 90/115 motors, but the 115 puts out 50 percent more power for the same weight. Obviously a cost saving move for mercury to have all three to share the same block, lower end etc.

Yeah, I went to their website and noticed that. I'm also getting cold feet about it because I've been reading all these horror stories about the optimax's reliability. Blowing powerheads, engines dying. It seems like there are only two speeds: Those that have had no problems and those that have had nothing but problems. Any feedbac on the 2009 Opti's would be great!

Thanks.
