I posted earlier about this problem, and thought I had it solved via JR Reeves method (lightly hammering down with a punch against the brass hold down ring) and some other suggestions. It was only a short term fix. I even removed the brass magneto plate insert/bushing, put a micrometer all around it, and turned it so that the thicker area would ride against the most important area to keep the magneto air gap constant at idle. Alas, it ran well for a while, then worse, then badly again as things worked loose and wore. I'd like to find and buy a used but not worn out magneto plate and all the hold down stuff below it. The problem has do do with movement both fore/aft and side to side as well as "teeter totter" play. Both of these are unacceptable and will leave me with the same problem. Anyone out there have an assembly that hasn't been ridden too hard that might work? I can get back with some numbers or pics if that would help, but these things appear to be pretty run of the mill on these OMCs.

Thanks!

Matt.

as mentioned in your other thread on the same subject, check with the salvage yards in the top secret file. also, is that throttle cam a factory piece?? ( pic#4). im admittedly not familiar with your model, but that cam looks a bit odd???? homemade maybe?

just from a quick glance, you can get all the parts new. cant see why you would need a new armature plate tho, part numbers 0303278 (armature support plate) and 0303277 (retainer ring) should solve your issues.....unless the plate is trashed. and its still available..part number 0584810......but the price of it will scare you!

The brass bushing inside the plate is worn badly and causing the fore/aft slop. The plate and bushing is considered one unit, but the bushing is pressed in and removable. It just isn't replaceable. I'd go salvage yard, but fear I'll get one just as worn out. Can I talk to those guys personally, or will they be irked if I ask about details of what they sell?

That cam throttle piece is factory. On the same pic, by the way, you can see how much slop is in the plate by the wear off of the green paint on the coil. It was just bought new.

definitely can see that the flywheel has been rubbing on the coil. ive never got parts from the salvage yards listed, but have only heard good things here on the forum! those guys wont sell worn out parts, id definitely look into it, and ask any question you have. jmo
