Hi I have the Chrysler 75hp model 757HB which I was told when purchasing is a 1980 model. (works fine no immediate problems)

A bloke nearby has a 757HA for sale with a blown gasket and other undetermined problems for sale cheap.

Are these two models close enough that I could use it as a bank of spare parts for my motor?

Around 1979, Chrysler changed the lower unit design.

If they both are a one piece lower unit, then everything is swappable. If one is a two piece lower, then everything except the lower units are swappable and even then, you could swap the engine blocks on the midlegs. Cowlings and shrouds are all the same. In short, as a parts source, it is a good engine to have

Thanks Guys,
I'll make him an offer and see what develops.

**Edit**
Picking it up this week, I intend to dismantle it which should serve two purposes.
  1. Easier to store
  2. Learn about my current motor without risking damage due to my ignorance :)

Does 1980 seem right for the year of my motor given the model number?(757HB)

Picked it up this evening, got the outboard, hydraulic tilt, cables etc and 3 different pitched props.

Paid $200NZ (about $150US)

I already have an offer to buy the tilt motor :)

Looks in reasonable condition, I my even consider rebuilding once I've had a decent look at it.
If it becomes a project I'll post progress and pictures etc. here.

Re: 757HA vs 757HB - Close enough?

Update.

I'm parting it out.

I took the head off and they had tried to seal it up with silicon:eek: no gasket at all....some people.. :shakeshead:

It also has a pronounced groove in the bottom cylinder that I can easily feel with my finger so I'm assuming it wasn't getting any petrol/oil for a while.

I have the starter motor, choke solenoid, carbs and petrol pump off so far, and I'll recondition them and stash them away for the future :)

I've broken the seal on the bottom leg with a rubber mallet, but it appears a bit stubborn, does it make it difficult to remove it it was left in gear when they took the cables off?

Short of grabbing a bigger hammer, is there something I should try 1st?

I've ordered a service manual but don't expect it here before the end of the weekend so thought I'd try here for some info in the meantime

Did you remove the hidden bolt inside the exhaust snout? You must remove the snout to get to it.

Yikes! STOP! Like Frank said, there is a surprise under the snout. Go take it off. You'll see.

Rather important clue there me thinks ;) thanks Frank.

It'll have to wait today tho, it's just after 8.am, the sun is shinning, the lake is waiting and the fish are hungry.....maybe tonight. :)
