I am new to boating, my father has helped so much but has passed away. Please help with my 75hp evinrude. ran ok a few times, I had new water pump, 3 new carb kits, new fuel lines, water filter, spark plugs. ran out of gas the other day and had trouble starting back up, as always so far. starts up great at first, smokes a lot at first. If i shut it off during the day- depends always, if i need to choke or not, or prime gas line. but starts up always. The mechanic i had working on it says the battery doesn't stay charged, but should last all day... I thought the battery might have been almost dead when it ran out of gas the other day after baoting all day, this is why it ran rough, or gas line problems?, it then barely started, i primed it?? so i put my portable charger on it,, now the controls make a loud buzzing when i put the keys in it.? do i need a new control?, and or something to keep the battery with a charge? also, is it normal to have a slow response with the controls??

I don't know what year your motor is, but once the motor is running the battery has nothing to do with it running and does not effect the operation of the motor. I don't know anything about the key in the ignition causing it to buzz.

I think the motor is a 1984 or 1985. thank you, I know very little about boat motors. Last it ran really rough.. can not enough oil cause this? Do you know the oil ratio? steering was hard at times also, when it seemed the motor wanted to fail, do you know if this is normal?? thank you for your reply

unless you have hydraulic sterring the sterring difficulty should be the same weather the engine is on off, or running, the exception to this is that at high speed there is more resistance because of the water resistance on the bottom of the motor in the water. No oil probably not cause rough running untill it was to late. Mix ratio is 50:1.

Re: 75evinrude control loud buzzing/ fuel problems?

I am having the same issue with the buzzing noise in the control unit on a Riveria Pontoon with a 70 Johnson. Someone told me it was a warning indication that the oil was low, but I have added more oil and it still buzzes. The first time it happened the motor was running fine in open water and it just cut off. When I went to restart it, it started but the alarm noise started also and it ran until I could get back in. Now if buzzes everytime it is started, even with more oil. Anyone else have any ideas what would cause the alarm?

Taylor if you start your own thread , someone should be able to help you out, too many questions in one and ppl get confused. Joe if you post your model number we can find out the year of your motor and then work on your problem.
