Hi guys, still trying to figure this motor out(1980 75 rude), but have a random question. The airbox on the carbs only has the back half, in other words the piece that has the vent line and 6 bolts to the carbs is there. The piece that would bolt to that and faces forward is gone. I bouth the motor this way and have been trying to get it to run right at wot. Does this air box have any effect on the performance of the motor? Thanks in advance for anyhelp!

Any ideas? Was just wondering if the open air could mess with the mixture at wot. I figure at idle it wouldn't have much effect, but she runs perfect at idle up to 2000 rpm's. I have pretty much read out/troubleshot all the other components and done carbs twice. Thanks

OB's should never be run w/o the silencer BC the mixture is changed without it in place. This may not be the source of your running problem, but it can damage the motor over time.

Thanks for the response Jim. I guess I will make one at work tonight. They want 80 bucks for a new one, where you can even find one. I am down to the nitty gritty on this motor as everthing is new or seems to be working 4.0 in accordance with tests!! Thanks again

You want to check the sticky file at the top of this forum for salvage yards. On that mtr you can run it with out that cover but there are some mtrs you can't. With out it it gets to dang noisey.
