Hello-

My name is Chris and I live in Des Moines, Iowa.

I'm getting ready to rebuild my 1975 Evinrude 75HP 3 cylinder. I found this motor last fall and it had thrown a rod. Thought I'd get into the forum here for advice from the experts.

I know I'll need a new crankcase cover, and once I break the block open, will most likely need additional parts. It would be great if anyone knows of a good parts source, one where I can get the crankcase cover!

Thanks-
Chris
tgkbarney@msn.com

Here's a couple popular places to get you going:
Marine Parts Outlet

Twin City Outboards

Try to find your local outboard junkyard if one exists. Buying an entire parts motor may make sense, as you'll be able to salvage the crank cover and at least one rod from it.

Thanks Paul- sounds like a smart way to go. Hey my brother talks about Twin City Outboards all the time- he lives in Little Canada, MN. In fact, he was going to see if they have a lower unit for my Merc 300 E short shaft.

Re: 75HP Needs Parts, Crankcase Cover

Hi Chris,
One thing to keep in mind is that if you only replace the cranckase cover, you may end up with a poor seal around the crankcase to block seam. The block and cranckase are line-bored as a unit, at which time the dowl pins, etc. are bored as well. If you do a mix and match, remove the alignment pins so that the crankshaft bearings and end caps act as the centering agents. If all is good, you should be fine. If that particular block or crankcase cover were bored off centerline just a few thousandths, then it may not seal perfectly...
- Scott
