I just ordered a new boat with a 2007 Mercury Optimax. To say the least I'm very excite, counting the days to ice out!

I was wondering if I should use supreme octane fuel in the engine or not. The manufacturer calls for 87 octane but if using a higher octane fuel is a better fuel for the engine then I'll use it. I plan on keeping this boat/motor for a long time.
Any opinions would be great!

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Re: 75hp Optimax

If 87 octane is called for, there is no benefit to using anything higher. In fact the additives may not be beneficial to engine longevity. Just use what's recommended.

Re: 75hp Optimax

This has been thouroughly discussed in the past (archives) and as Silver says, the recommended octane is the correct answer.
